The Thornton W. Burgess Museum brings together a variety of artifacts pertaining to the life and times of the great children's author, a Sandwich native. An array of books, toys, games, and even household goods are on display, depicting Peter Rabbit, Jimmy Skunk, Danny Meadow Mouse and other famous characters from Burgess' many stories; outside, visitors can stroll through a lovely herb garden. The museum overlooks the north end of beautiful Shawme Lake and sits near the Sandwich Glass Museum.
